Dignity

The needs of older people vary greatly so we recognise the need to treat each resident as an individual, whose dignity and independence are to be respected. The home is divided into four wings in which we offer a wide spectrum of nursing care, including facilities for those with physical disabilities and two wings that specialise in caring for people with dementia.

We regularly hold Resident and Relative meetings to enable opinions, suggestions and recommendations to be voiced.

Professionalism

The excellent staff team is made up of trained specialists in providing care for older people. All care staff are trained to NVQ Level II in Care. This enables staff to undertake their role with knowledge and skills and deliver high standards of care. We believe their professionalism is second to none, but we are also proud of their warmth and friendliness that makes the Bradbury Centre so special. In recent years, the outstanding quality of care delivered by our staff has been recognised in their reaching the finals of a number of competitions.

Care

With nursing, amenities and therapeutic facilities specially designed for use by older people, The Bradbury Centre has the ability to provide care over a wide spectrum of need.

Short stays can sometimes be arranged very quickly, and a full nursing assessment is undertaken in consultation with the prospective resident and his or her family and other health professionals.

Admission is initially for a trial period of one month, after which, if both parties agree, a contract for a longer stay is offered.

The home has its own GP, who visits regularly and provides emergency cover, but arrangements can be made for residents to retain their own doctor if they wish. We have a visiting hairdresser and a chiropodist who both attend regularly.

Accommodation

Our Home is divided into four wings. Each wing has its own spacious dining room and sitting rooms plus modern assisted bathrooms. Every room has a low level windowsill with views over one of our specially designed gardens, which are easily accessible in good weather.

Residents are encouraged to bring in personal items and small articles of furniture, which help to provide a homely atmosphere and enhance the private nature of each resident’s room.

Rooms for the physically frail have private telephone and TV sockets and en-suite facilities.

Meals are served in the dining room in each wing but may be taken in residents’ rooms if required.

A wide variety of appetising food is freshly prepared by specialist chefs, who are experienced in providing balanced and nutritional meals and catering for special diets.

Activities

Our Activities Co-ordinator and the Friends of the Bradbury Centre between them help to raise funds and organise a wide variety of outings, entertainment and in-house activities.

Visitors are welcome at any time and the active involvement of family members is encouraged, if that is the resident’s wish.

Friends and relatives are always welcome to stay for a meal or to join in our social programme. We can arrange for the delivery of newspapers and magazines and there is small shop from which toiletries, cards, confectionary etc may be purchased.

Among the shared facilities is a room used as a chapel, with a cross donated to us by the late Queen Mother.

You are warmly invited to come and see for yourself what makes The Bradbury Centre such a special place. Please contact the Home Manager to arrange a visit.

“ We thank you all and acknowledge how special you all are to have gone that ‘extra mile’ with us.”
