Gloucester House

.

Situated just a mile from Sevenoaks High Street, Gloucester House is a purpose-built nursing home that was completed in 1990 and was named after the Society’s patron, HRH The Duchess of Gloucester.

Dignity

Our aim has always been to build a home where older people can receive outstanding care yet retain the freedom to organise and manage their own lifestyle.

The needs of older people vary greatly so we recognise the need to treat each resident as an individual, whose dignity and independence are to be respected.

The home is divided into four wings in which we offer a wide spectrum of nursing care, including facilities for those with physical disabilities.

Residents are encouraged to bring in personal items and small articles of furniture, which help to provide a homely atmosphere and enhance the private nature of each resident’s room.

We regularly hold Resident and Relative meetings to enable opinions, suggestions and recommendations to be voiced.

Professionalism

The excellent staff team is made up of trained specialists in providing care for older people. We believe their professionalism is second to none, but we are also proud of their warmth and friendliness that make Gloucester House so special.

Care

The care team is headed by a Matron/Manager and includes qualified nurses, trained care staff, a physiotherapist and a visiting GP.

Between them they provide long term nursing care and expertise in palliative care. For all types of stay a full nursing

assessment is undertaken in consultation with the prospective resident and his or her family and other health professionals.

Admission is initially for a trial period after which, if both parties agree, a contract for a longer stay is agreed.

Accommodation

Our Home is divided into four wings or “villages”, each of which has its own cosy dining room and sitting room.

Each of the bed-sitting rooms has its own ensuite bathroom and sockets for telephone and TV. Some of the rooms are specially equipped for people with physical disabilities and some rooms can be set up with interconnecting doors.

The central section of the building can be opened out into a large room for activities, entertainments and other social gatherings.

Upstairs (served by a lift) we have a hairdressing salon, a physiotherapy room and a library, which also has a computer and internet access for residents to use.

Our attractive garden is easily accessible in all weathers and provides a wonderfully relaxing place to enjoy fresh air and birdsong.

Meals are served in the dining room but may be taken in residents’ rooms if required.

.

A wide variety of appetising food is freshly prepared by specialist chefs, who are experienced in providing balanced and nutritional meals and catering for special diets.

Drinks and light refreshments are available at any time.

“ The love and kindness showered on him by everyone there made his last two years of life so much better and more comfortable. Thank you so much.”

Activities

Our Activities Co-ordinator and the Friends of Gloucester House between them help to raise funds and organise a wide variety of outings, entertainment and inhouse activities.

We have a specially adapted minibus that enables us to visit local attractions and shops. We can also arrange individual excursions on special occasions.

We can arrange for the delivery of newspapers and magazines and there is small shop from which toiletries, cards, confectionery etc may be purchased.

Visitors are welcome at any time and the active involvement of family members is encouraged, if that is the resident’s wish. Friends and relatives are always welcome to stay for a meal or to join in our social programme.

Churches of various denominations visit Gloucester House on a regular basis and a service is held at least once a month.

You are warmly invited to come and see for yourself what makes Gloucester House such a special place.

Please contact the Home Manager to arrange a visit.

“ I would like to thank them all (staff) for their wonderful care and unfailing good humour”
